Fitz and Floyd Cookie Jars

If you like collecting cookie jars then consider looking into a Fitz and Floyd cookie jar. The Fitz and Floyd company began in 1960 with two partners who intended to have an import company. Somewhere along the way they instead began creating ceramics including all manner of tableware.

One of the more popular lines appeared in the 1970 – sets of hand painted ceramics perfect for gift giving. It was in these collections that the amazing artistic vision of Fitz and Floyd began flourishing. In fact, their work was so impressive that dignitaries around the world commissioned unique pieces, and other government officials often had special items made for visiting ambassadors and leaders.

Among the notable items made by the company, a Fitz and Floyd cookie jar is definitely a collectible. One line in particular, Charming Tails, comes immediately to mind. This series of works focused on sweet animal characters created in blown glass, ceramic and resin – yes, including cookie jars. In addition to the jars they also sold other items that could tie various parts of the house together into a theme – like holiday ornaments, mugs, salad plates and mantle decorations.

One example of the Charming Tails is called Holly Day. It consists of four pieces, one of which is a Tree Stump cookie jar. All around the jar tiny animals are playing and preparing for a special day. The jar is 8” tall and was issued in 2001. Price? About $55.00!

There is no question that when you see a Friz and Floyd cookie jar you’ll be impressed by the construction, vivid colors, and whimsical nature of the work. Many of the themes they chose were ones to which people of all ages could relate such as Disney Cookie Jar that depict various cartoon characters.

As an illustration there’s the Disney Christmas Package. This cookie jar feature Pinocchio, Mickey Mouse, Dumbo and Dopey looking out of a festively wrapped box. The jar stands 11” high and costs about $60 in good. Condition. If you’re having trouble locating these, try the American Cookie association. They often have some wonderful pieces available at reasonable prices.

A Fitz and Floyd cookie jar by itself or as part of a collection will always be a treasure. Find one that makes you smile and share it with children of all ages.
